Credit Transfer Guidance for First-Year Students
This policy applies to incoming First-Year students at St. Thomas, beginning in Fall 2024 and beyond. It outlines how the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) relates to the core curriculum of our undergraduate baccalaureate degrees.
²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Transfer Curriculum (MnTC)
The ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) is a set of general education courses intended to provide students with progress towards a bachelor's degree. First-Year students who complete the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) before they matriculate at St. Thomas will be deemed to have completed the heart of the St. Thomas core curriculum.
First-Year or Transfer Student?
If the credits you want to transfer were earned AFTER you completed your high school degree, then you are a Transfer Student and need to read a different set of guidelines.
Core Curriculum Requirements
First-Year students who complete the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) or an AA from ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois or North Dakota will be deemed to have completed the St. Thomas undergraduate core curriculum requirements after satisfying these additional requirements:
First Year Experience (FYEX)
Complete FYEX 100
First-Year students who have completed the MnTC must complete FYEX 100, Foundations for College Success, specifically designed to provide students with knowledge and skills that will help them succeed at St. Thomas.
These students will have the Living Learning Community or Common Good Learning Community requirement waived.
Two Additional Courses
Additional Courses in Philosophy and Theology
First-Year Students who have completed the MnTC must complete two additional courses:
- one course designated by the Philosophy department, and
- one course designated by the Theology department.
These departments will determine which courses MnTC-completed first-year students must complete. This allows the departments to either choose one of their existing courses, revise an existing course specifically for MnTC first-year students, or create a new course specifically for MnTC first-year students.
Capstone Experience
Complete the Capstone (i.e., Signature Work) experience.

How the MnTC and AA are Recognized at St. Thomas
To apply this policy, first-year students who have completed the MnTC or AA degree (from ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois or North Dakota) need to submit their transcripts to St. Thomas.
For those who completed the MnTC, the MnTC needs to be indicated on transcript.
Please contact the St. Thomas admissions office, for more information or questions.
